This place was so sketchy and dirty. As if people have been living here for years, a “hunting” lodge camper, and a torn down post office. Even saw what looked like a dead puppy under a tree. Couldn’t have gotten out of there faster. Bummer because the views were spectacular. No words for this place.
We were on a trek from Needles, CA to Ignacio, CO and picked Gallup, NM as our stop over. We found Red Rock Park on Campendium and decided to give it a try. The $22 a night price tag was super appealing for this bargain hunter. We arrived in the mid-afternoon on a Sunday and true to the reviews there was no one on duty to check in with and the spots are kind of confusing to figure out. We have a 44 ft toy hauler so we just parked and walked around until we found a nice spot. The views were incredible and the hiking trails to Pyramid Rock and Church Rock were very nice. The park is really cool, could use some maintenance but was totally worth it. We feel like we have found a neat camp spot that we will definitely return to again.

Creating a reservation was easy. I did so a couple of days before my arrival. The staff was very friendly and helpful on the day of my arrival and the when I made reservations. The site I was given is a nice site with a great view towards the Church Rock Trail head. I'd take this site again. I enjoyed the proximity to Gallup, and to the Arizona border. From here I visited both the Navajo and Hopi reservations. Walked the Church Rock Trail Loop, and even the cross over to the top of Pyramid Rock. I highly recommend doing the trails here. Beautiful scenery. Just make sure you have proper shoes. This is not an easy trail, and has some steep ascents. They have a small but nice museum there, and a post office. I also took in a movie at the Red Rock Theater in Gallup. I noticed UPS was delivering right to peoples site.
At your site is electricity and water, no sewer. But they have a handy dump station. The RV park was pretty full when I was there. They do have monthly rentals, and it's obvious there was some people who were there long term. But it was quiet, and no one was bothersome. The people I did interact with were friendly. I could hear an occasional train off in the distance. But it was not something that was disruptive to me. Their internet was pretty good actually. It requires web based authentication periodically, so I couldn't use my wifi extender. (I just like to use my extender for my devices in my camper) Cell service with Verizon was good.
My site (14) shares the water spigot with the site to the east (13 I think). Since that site was occupied and connected I knock on their door and advised I needed to turn off the water to tie in. The lady was ok with that. I do carry a brass 2 way water splitter. That also made it easy when the people in that site left, and the next people arrived.

This is one of the most beautiful RV parks I have seen. The rock is impossibly red and you get to sleep right under it. There is a beautiful and amazing hike right at your doorstep to Church Rock. We didn’t hook up to water or electric and it cost us $10. We arrived after the park office was closed and the next morning someone arrived to collect our money. You can park in any spot and choose to not hook up for $10 or hook up for $22 I believe.
Some sites are unlevel, but there are a ton available so we found one that was acceptable to us. We had full use of WiFi and great cell phone reception.
It is very close off 1-40 and near train tracks but it didn’t bother us and we slept soundly through the night. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.

The campground has so much potential, it is a tired park. Google maps shows it as a state park, but it is actually a city park.
We survived the afternoon winds, parked so our view was of those big red rocks, woke up to a beautiful morning, did a great hike from the park, encountered very nice park workers and our overall Campendium rating improved.
The huge stadium lights you see to the west, lights up a huge rodeo complex. The rodeo area has corral after corral and areas that must be used for rally type events for RVs. This area too, is very tired looking.
Pyramid Rock’s trailhead is past the rodeo arena Beautiful view up there at the top. This trail also connects to Church Rock which brings you back to the campground.
They have done a good job trimming trees that might otherwise scratch a big tall RV like ours.

Pulled in and could not determine where we were supposed to park. There were electrical hookups scattered about so we just pulled up next to one. We had no idea if we were in a campsite or on the road. Very confusing mostly due to everything covered in dirt and no signage. Quite a few long term campers here.

Pretty cool place to visit. Lots of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Some really great photography locations in the park as well.
There’s a rodeo grounds nearby and it can get busy in the spring. Nice sites, well spaced. Hookups, dump station and a post office. We had hot air balloons launch close by which was very cool.
$22/night and worth it.

Scenery was beautiful. Scary stray dog lives at the camp site. We called and they said he was very nice. The park was full of stickers( ultimate hitchhikers) Our dogs and my son had them all over their feet. Not a good park for dogs or if you are afraid if dogs.

What a great find, thanks to this site! We even accidentally ran into good friends there. $10/nite if you’re not hooking up to water and electric. Decent bathrooms with free hot water showers. A fabulous camp dog named Bourbon. And two great hikes right from the campground (or one hike if you combine the two like we did via the connector trail). You can reserve your spot and pay with a credit card via the phone - but go by the office to get your key for the bathrooms and a map of the park and trails.
